Ting Mat Mat
Noodle with Coconut Soup and Chicken Wings

Back in the 1970s, the founder of Ting Mat Mat, Mrs Ieong, sold Burmese snacks for a living in Rotunda de Carlos da Maia. Mrs Ieong’s traditional Burmese cooking method passed on to her son Mr Ieong and continued the family specialities – rice noodles with fish soup and noodles with coconut soup and chicken wings.

Inside the restaurant, there is a Burmese style painting. The restaurant builds up a solid customer base.

RECOMMENDATION

Noodle with Coconut Soup and Chicken Wings

Noodle with coconut soup and chicken wings is one of Ting Mat Mat’s signature dishes. The chicken wings and noodles are submerged in the flavourful coconut soup, along with the crunchy fried doughnut, lemon juice and onion – this dish is full of surprises.

Rice noodles with Fish Soup

The rice noodles with fish soup is another customers’ favourite. I would recommend you to add a little bit lemon juice and some Burmese-style crispy fried split chickpea cracker into the hot fish soup. The combination between the Burmese fish soup and the crackers is very satisfying.

Beef Brisket Curry with Paratha

Usually at a Hong Kong style restaurant, beef brisket curry comes with rice and noodles but the owner suggested us to order the dish with Burmese-style Paratha. In order to keep the crispy texture of the Paratha, you can scoop a spoonful of curry and spread it on the Paratha, and eat it with a bite of beef brisket. Then you can have a taste of everything.

Burmese-Style Minced Meat Rice

Besides traditional Burmese dishes, the restaurant owner also creates dishes that combines traditional Hong Kong style restaurant (cha chaan teng) elements, such as the Burmese-style minced meat rice. It is also very well-received!

Burmese-style Faluda

People may not be familiar with Burmese-style desserts. This was also my first time trying Faluda. The pink appearance caught my attention. The Faluda has a lot of ingredients such as rice flavour jelly, sago, chai seed, homemade pudding and ice cream. This drink tastes as good as it looks.
